This is a series taken during Covid-19 lockdown. I had been meaning to do a photo series on the border of Thanet, the isle once separated from mainland by a navigable channel. The land has now been drained for farming. The lowlands are quite interesting in their desolation and expanse. Only three roads lead into Thanet and the low lands are quite inaccessible.
Lockdown finally inspired me to make a start. Initially the stillness of the landscape attracted me, I was cycling along empty roads with a tripod and medium format camera. The Isle felt abandoned. I ventured to places I’d never seen before. The series has a melancholy and not surprisingly focuses on abandonment and solitude.
All photographs shot on 6×9 negs printed at 16×12.
